"All stations, all stations, all stations, this is Falmouth Coastguard, Falmouth Coastguard, Falmouth Coastguard."
So went our unofficial welcome back into English waters, as we passed south of the Isles of Scilly, headed towards Jersey. It was strange to hear a non-Clipper voice speaking with an English accent over the radio. Nearly there!!
We’ve been flying along for the last 48 hours in what’s turning out to be an exciting race for TGSL. We’ve slowly been catching Bristol and Liverpool, the two boats in front, but our main battle has been with Jersey, who were in sight just behind us - until last night, when they disappeared off to starboard in the middle of a squall. But we know they’re not far away and we’re pushing TGSL to her very limit in order to maintain our slender lead and win another pennant. If we can do it, the wet bunks, the soakings in the cockpit and the cold night watches will all have been worth it.
Radio 5 Live
